Help for Professionals
Sandwell Cancer, Older People and Advocacy Project is a partnership between Sandwell Advocacy and OPAAL and is funded by Macmillan Cancer Support and The Big Lottery.
We aim to promote independence, choice and control. We aim to ensure that individuals are placed at the heart of the decision-making process and that their voices are heard.
The project is led by highly experienced advocacy practitioners and supported by a team of trained volunteers. Our service is free, confidential and independent.
We support people to resolve any issues or difficulties, cancer-related or not, to improve their quality of life and support them to make informed decisions about treatment and care. We can provide support around a wide variety of issues including treatment and care, social and financial difficulties and employment issues, and can provide a listening ear.
We can help your patients:
- Improve their health and well-being
- Reduce their anxiety
- Safeguard their support and entitlements
- Counter age discrimination
- Make and communicate decisions
- Access other services and benefits
If you know someone who is resident in Sandwell aged over 50 whom you feel would benefit from accessing the Sandwell Cancer, Older People and Advocacy Project then please get in touch or advise them to contact us.
"There are a lot of decisions patients have to make and we try to help them as much as we can, but sometimes I think to have someone one to one at home with a lot of time to do that...it's another pair of ears, you don't take everything in when you're seen in clinic."
